Giorgio Cavalieri

Giorgio Cavalieri was born in Ragusa (Sicily), where he died in 2014.
His artworks depict many typically Iblean environments, including private houses and public places. His paintings are not only expressing his unconditional love to the art but also to Ragusa and its people. Cavalieri sold his paintings, often even before completing them, making it difficult to gather his works for an exhibition. It is a bit like reconstructing a language from the pieces of a puzzle in order to have an overview of his artistic production. Only occasionally private collectors borrow their work to be put on view in public. He was very appreciated on the island and could be found in numerous houses. Among the many iblei landscapes and portraits, he painted a few commissions. He is appreciated for his hyper-realist style, which perfectly transmits the Sicilian landscapes and culture. He was well-known by the entire Sicilian art scene and often envied by many fellow artists, who couldn’t (unlike Cavalieri) live of their art.
The island was taken by him and he by the island. So much in fact, that he refused many offers to move to Milan for painting portraits etc.
